I have given this a lot of thought over the labor day weekend, so I figure it’s time I share it with you.
Palin was a better choice then Biden and here’s why.
Palin is a Washington outsider. She is the maverick that McCain likes to think he is and she is a women, but most importantly is she has no significant connection in Washington. If she gets to be trouble or gets out of line, McCain can always say to her, “You’re taking a two week tour of the European capitals, you leave Thursday, make sure you take plenty of clean underwear”. She has no political allies to help her circumvent McCain. Ultimately she would have to go.
Biden on the other hand, is the consummate Washington insider. His rolodex is the size of a tractor-trailer. He knows everyone, knows their positions on everything, knows how to talk with them and he knows where the bodies are buried, figurtatively speaking of course.
Had Obama appointed Biden Secretary of State or the Treasury and Biden got out of control, Obama could always fire him. But, as Vice President, Biden is not going anywhere, no matter what and Obama has to live with that. If Obama decides that Biden is getting to be trouble and says to him, “You’re going to take a two week tour of european capitals, you leave Thursday, make sure you take plenty of clean under wear”. Biden is more than likely to reply “Sorry Barack, but I’m busy running the country, you take the tour and let me know how it goes”.
Biden has run for President a number of times and subsequently proven his desire for Presidential power, the possibility that Biden sees the Vice Presidency as his chance for Presidential power is probably fairly good. Even if he has to circumvent BO to do it. In fact, Biden made a Freudian slip the other day, go here to read it.
Appointing Joe Biden as VEEP is far to dangerous. The danger of a “palace coup” is too great. Mark my words, if we hear of Obama and Biden going toe to toe in the oval office, rumors only of course, remember you read it here first.
